Leslie T. Iwai
In a residency with Leslie Iwai, students will be introduced to site-specific installation sculpture as an artistic expression. Geared toward their age and experience level, participants will utilize simple, atypical materials to construct a collaborative artistic installation at their school or in their community. Students will engage in individual and group art making to understand how art can physically transform their immediate environment and cause community engagement. Leslie holds an undergraduate degree is in Mathematics with a minor in Chemistry. She earned a Master of Architecture degree through her studies at Virginia Tech and in Switzerland. She has been widely commissioned for installations, public art and residencies throughout Nebraska, and was a volunteer in Sierra Leone, Africa. One of her best-known public art pieces, Sounding Stones, is located at Elmwood Park in Omaha, Nebraska.
