Poetry Out Loud Brings Poetry, Confidence to Nebraska High School Students

All Nebraska high schools are encouraged to sign up for Poetry Out Loud – a nationwide program that encourages youth in grades 9-12 to learn about poetry through memorization and recitation, and helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence and learn about our literary heritage.

Poetry Out Loud begins at the classroom level, where teachers are provided with support materials and the assistance of a teaching artist with expertise in poetry and performance. Recitation contests are held at the classroom level, with opportunities to advance to regional, state and national competitions later in the school year. All teaching artists are pre-approved through the Nebraska Arts Council’s teaching artist roster.

The deadline to register is Monday, November 30, 2015. The program is available to all Nebraska high schools free of charge.

Poetry Out Loud is a collaboration between state arts agencies, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. For more information, visit our Poetry Out Loud page.
