Shari Hofschire is past Director of the Center for Innovation in Arts Education at the University of Nebraska Omaha. The Center received the 2008 Chancellors Strategic Planning Award for Community Engagement. While at UNO, Shari also taught courses in art history and arts education and organized CADRE II, a graduate/mentor program in arts education and served as its original coordinator. For ten years, she served as Director of the Prairie Visions Institute, an enrichment program in comprehensive arts education for classroom teachers from across the state. Shari developed the educational materials and thematic curriculum units for the Nebraska Masterpieces project, the Iowa West Public Art Project and the Bemis Center’s Fertile Ground mural educational project. As Chair of Nebraska’s Fine Arts Standards Consortium, she conducted statewide professional development workshops.
Shari has twice been recognized as Educator of the Year for Higher Education by the Nebraska Art Teachers Association and was selected to attend the National Leaders Institute sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Teacher Institute at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. Shari was awarded the Governor’s Arts Awards for Excellence in Education in 2018.
Shari’s community involvements are extensive. She has served as President of the Boards of Directors for Nebraskans for the Arts, Nebraska Shakespeare, Omaha Children’s Museum, African Culture Connection, UNO Alumni Association, Friends of Art, and Ballet Omaha. She was elected to Westside Community Schools Board of Education for fifteen years, serving as President for three terms.
