Margaret’s Shakespeare with Noodles program aims to cut through the language barrier many students encounter when approaching Shakespeare for the first time by using colorful swimming noodles as props. By incorporating elements of melodrama, students experience a heightened sense of reality through exaggeration. The oversized, silly noodle props add a comedic element to text that students often view as intimidating and antiquated. They gain a better understanding of character and come to appreciate the timeless appeal of Shakespeare and his work. Margaret has a Master of Arts in Teaching from Hastings College and 20 years experience in the classroom. She has taught at Hastings College and Central Community College. She is the recipient of a Moonshell Arts Award for Best Youth Arts Event in 2013 and was named outstanding director by the Nebraska Association of Community Theatres in 2004. Margaret collaborates with teachers to adapt her program to suit individual classroom needs. She is also skilled at working with children with reading difficulties and other learning problems.
