Charles Ahovissi is a professional dancer, performer, choreographer, stage costume designer and tailor from Benin, West Africa. As a member of the Ballet National of Benin and the Super Anges Dance Troupe from 1986 to 2000, Charles toured throughout Africa, Europe, China and the USA performing and teaching African dancing, drumming and singing. Charles wants to share his fascinating culture with Nebraskans in order to foster better understanding of Africa and its diverse and beautiful cultures. During Charles’ 45-60 minute performance the audience will see three categories of traditional dance: sacred, royal and popular, each with its own vibrant costume and traditional music. During costume changes the audience will be entertained with African Culture videos, pictures and music.
Technical requirements: Stage or large open space (30' x 30'), stage lighting, sound system with three microphones, screen with projector equipment and changing room (not a bathroom).
