Arts Accessibility Grants

The Arts Accessibility Grant has two programs:
          1) Event Services

          2) Improvement Projects 

1) Arts Accessibility Grants for Event Services

The Arts Accessibility Grant for Event Services provides reimbursement funds for services that increase the ability of persons with disabilities and persons with limited English proficiency to access the arts. Funds can be used for licensed services used in connection with an arts or cultural event hosted online or held safely outdoors, such as livestreamed performances, virtual classes, and socially distanced outdoor events. This grant program is made possible with support from the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

What expenses are eligible?:

Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to:

  • Fees for licensed American Sign Language Interpreter(s)
  • Fees for licensed Audio Description Services
  • Fees for captioning services
  • Fees for language translation services

Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations incorporated in Nebraska that are federally tax-exempt, public agencies and sub-divisions of governmental agencies. 

Deadline: Grant applications are due at least four weeks before the event.

Grant Amounts: Applicants can request a maximum award of $1,500 per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30)
$300 per event or $1,500 for a series of five (5) or more events

2.) Arts Accessibility Grant for improvement projects

The Arts Accessibility Grant for Improvement Projects grant is designed to provide non-matching funds to enhance access, to an arts organization’s existing programs or facility for persons with disabilities, beyond the minimum ADA requirements. A Letter of Intent is required and, if the proposal is determined to be eligible, an invitation to apply will be made.

What expenses are eligible?

  • Purchase and staff training of accessibility equipment
  • Improvements to existing facilities 
  • Professional development for staff 

Eligibility: Nonprofit arts organizations incorporated in Nebraska that are federally tax-exempt.

Grant Amounts: Non-matching, up to $5,000

How to Apply: To be eligible to apply, organizations must first email a Letter of Intent (LOI) to

  • Describe the proposed project and how it will address your organization’s accessibility goals.
  • Include a budget estimate describing the expenses for your project.

Deadline: LOIs must be received at least 12 weeks before the proposed project start date.
