Anne Alston

Program Specialist

In her role as a Program Specialist for the Nebraska Arts Council, Anne works to ensure that Nebraskans have opportunities for lifelong learning in the arts, including arts education in schools. She is also involved in special NAC initiatives to advance the arts in communities throughout the state. Anne is responsible for developing, managing, and coordinating the NAC’s arts education programs, as well as the administration of related grants and services. Among her responsibilities, Anne manages Arts Learning Project Grants and the roster of teaching artists who are part of the Artists in Schools/Communities Grant Program. She also oversees the Poetry Out Loud program for the state of Nebraska.

She is currently a member of the Nebraskans for the Arts Education Committee, the Omaha Directors of Education for Arts & Culture, and ‘Poetry from the Plains’ website advisory committee. She has served on several regional and national arts education committees and advisory groups, and has been a grant panelist for the Iowa Arts Council, the Arkansas Arts Council, the Nebraska Volunteer Services Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2018 the National Council of Teachers of English and the Nebraska Language Arts Council honored her with an affilliate Intellectual Freedom Award. Prior to NAC, she was a teaching specialist in the education department at Joslyn Art Museum and headed the education and outreach program at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts.
