More Details
Art in the Blue is a project of the BLUEBARN Theatre that asks visual artists to respond to work on the stage. The artwork selected for this show (titled Motley Company) will harmonize with the themes of the current production.
The Wild Party tells the story of a get-together that spirals out of control. We are looking for artwork that features groups of people having a good time, abstract work with wild color and imagery, or lurid scenes from the Prohibition era. Your work doesn’t exactly fit this prompt? Well, submit it anyway. We want to see what you have in case it is a good fit for the next show (or season).
Any media will be considered, but pieces MUST be ready to hang/install.
The play will run from May 22nd to June 22nd. Artwork drop-off will take place during the week of May 10th and the pieces will be installed the following week. Artists are welcome to come visit the show, but there is no opening per se. We will choose two or three artists for an artists’ talk for which there is a modest stipend.

Here is the official BLUEBARN description of the play:
A steamy prohibition tale roars across the stage. Based on the widely banned 1928 narrative poem, this darkly brilliant show features one of the most pulse-racing scores ever written. Lovers Queenie and Burrs plan the party-to-end-all-parties to bring the spark back to their affair. Instead, Queenie’s wandering eye sends Burrs into a jealous rage. As the decadence reaches a climax, Burrs erupts. Gun in hand, Burrs turns on Queenie and her new lover.
The gun gets fired, but who gets shot?
