Event Description:
From an early age, Danielle Dewees recalls attempting to visualize the landscape around her in south-central Nebraska before the roads, towns, farmsteads, and fences. As an adult, she finds herself seeking out environments with little to no impact from industrialization. Her artwork attempts to convey her experiences in these environments. As a result of her exploration and creative process, she now has a deeper and more meaningful sense of home. She feels grounded and connected to the Great Plains in a new way, and she continues to find inspiration in its landscapes, tallgrass prairies, and open spaces.
“Back Home” features one of Danielle’s favorite sources of inspiration: the North American Bison. Some of the pieces in the show are directly inspired by Pioneers Park’s resident bison. She likes to think these pieces are back home at the Pioneers Park Nature Center.
Danielle hopes “Back Home” inspires viewers to explore the natural world, discover a deeper appreciation for it, and maybe even develop their own sense of home here in the Great Plains.
