Folk & Traditional Arts, Trick Roping

Joan Wells brings an educational and entertaining experience to your community with her Trick and Fancy Roping. This type of wild west performing became a part of American heritage 100 years ago. Joan won the title of Women’s World Champion Trick Roper while competing at the Will Rogers Memorial in Oklahoma. In 1989 she was inducted as a cowgirl honoree into the National Cowgirl Hall Of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas. Joan recently has placed first in international trick roping competition at the Will Rogers Expo in Claremore, Oklahoma. Joan’s mastery of both the Mexican and American styles of roping is an exotically beautiful art. She performs with dexterity, grace, precision and flair as she goes from one trick to the next. This program includes a fast-moving performance with narrative and is choreographed to contemporary western music. From wild west shows to vaudeville to rodeo to fairs, festivals, stage shows and even half time entertainment Joan performs in the true tradition of Buffalo Bill’ s first traveling show.
