Event Description:
Mark your calendars for special First Friday with artist Sara Schellenberg on June 6. Join us for a gallery talk with the artist based on her new exhibition “Sara Schellenberg: Within me there is a pinwheel,” now showing through Sept. 13.
Using elements of still-life, abstraction, and figuration, Schellenberg’s paintings celebrate the commonalities between quilting and painting. Quilts are used as both a visual source and a narrative element in Schellenberg’s work, creating scenes that echo domestic spaces, religious influence and family dynamics. These paintings attempt to engage with the rich visual language of quilting as a folk tradition and as a family practice.
First Fridays are free events held on the first Friday of each month. Enjoy free access to the IQM galleries from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Gallery talk to begin at 5:30 p.m.
