Project Description

The newly renovated Joseph D. & Millie E. Williams Science Hall (WSH) continues its legacy of educational excellence with a new focus on student services. Previously, all student services offices were located in buildings across campus. Now, like a gathering space, Williams Science Hall houses all those offices for Student Services, Graduate Studies, International Health and Medical Education, Alumni Relations, College of Pharmacy labs, Student Accounts and Cashiering, Student Success, Global Engagement, Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, and UNMC High School Alliance. Its central location makes it easier for students to access services and support and become involved on campus. The renovated building also implements study nooks for students to comfortably study and collaborate with classmates.

Williams Science Hall started as the College of Pharmacy building in 1976, with a state-of-the-art educational and research facility. The facility was equipped with laboratories and there was a greenhouse on level five for the medicinal and pharmacognosy departments. A terrace led to a student lounge and canteen off the 42nd Street entrance. Level two of the building housed a model pharmacy. The college is proud of the original aesthetic features of the building. The décor was 1970s modern with an atrium lighted by modernistic light fixtures, which is core to the new, updated, minimalistic design that includes clean lines, white textures and contrasting surfaces.
